When to respool, honestly
Every 3–6 months
Weekly anglers: 3 months. Weekend anglers: 6. Cut back two metres when the last few metres look furry; respool when the fade reaches the spool lip.
Every trip or two
Cheap enough to change constantly. Sun and heat kill mono faster than use does — never leave a spool on a hot dashboard.
After every decent fish
Leader is a consumable inside a consumable. Retie the last metre after abrasion on rock, shell or teeth.
Client reels eat line
